Lake Onalaska and Brice Prairie

Lake Onalaska was formed in 1937 after the construction of Lock and Dam #7 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The map on the left is from a Wisconsin geological survey conducted in 1931 (source: UW-L Murphy Library). An overlay of the 1931 map with today's Google Earth photo provides insight into what used to be and the land that still lays under Lake Onalaska.
