Charming con artist Curley stows away aboard the Mississippi Belle. When a passenger is discovered murdered, a rich socialite offers a million-dollar reward to solve the crime before reaching port. Curley hatches a plan: she disguises herself as a southern gentleman named “Abel Underwood,” in order to frame him for the murder and claim the reward for herself!
But her plans run afoul of Professor Julius Mayberry (Egyptologist), who is running a scheme of his own. Famed detective Eloise Stout thinks something’s amiss, and this whole thing may not be a murder mystery at all.

Juan Pujol Garcia is a Spanish chicken farmer and failed hotel manager who wants to be a British Spy in World War II. When the British reject him out of fear he’s just a crazy buffoon, he does the unbelievable: encouraged by his equally eccentric wife Araceli, he tells the Germans he’s a British spy and offers to be a double-agent. They believe him, and put him to work.
Eventually, the British catch on and start to use him. Using nothing but his wits, imagination, and a network of entirely made-up informants, “Agent Garbo” dupes the enemy, becomes the most important spy in World War II, and saves the invasion of Normandy from certain failure.
